Continuous Forming of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Thermoplastic Profiles for Structural Applications –Development of continuous process chains for the efficient production of thermoplastic profiles
Brief description: The market for thermoplastic fiber composites is becoming ever larger due to the easier recyclability, weldability and short cycle times of these materials. With this background in mind, the ThermoPros project aims to develop continuous process chains for both straight and curved thermoplastic structural profiles for the aerospace and automotive industries. Roll forming and Continuous Compression Molding (CCM) are used as forming technologies. The focus is on the development of the entire process chain, from the selection of raw materials, different manufacturing processes for the required semi-finished fiber products, the molding technologies to secondary modifications of the profiles such as the application of patches or subsequent cross-sectional changes. A total of 13 German and Japanese partners are working together in the project.
